Every year around January the chicks are raised and the Bee-eaters depart from the nest sites to stock up before their journey North into the rest of Africa and Europe. Around mid September one is then handsomely rewarded for sticking out the long and drab winter when these beautiful birds return.
This was yet again the case this year and I am happy to report that they are back in full force with approximately forty or more individuals, painting a colourful palette across the sky and chanting to us in their beautiful calls!
It is amazing to have them back and we are looking forward to many more wonderful visits to the site this season.
Really such a wonderful way to kick off the new birding season!
